DEMINSKI & DOYLE - HEY, WHA' HAPPENED?
As of 9:00 am January 4th I am no longer working for WCSX nor is my partner in crime of 16 years Bill Doyle.
When Greater Media first approached us they wanted the show as it was, a talk show, the same as we'd always done in the Detroit market. They hired us in for morning drive to do just that, but they very quickly decided that doing talk on an otherwise all music station was more radical for their 'CSX audience than they realized, and they simply wanted to get back to their roots. Throughout 2009 we were offered the chance to change the show to a music intensive one, but we're not disc jockeys and didn't want to become that. In the end, we both came to the agreement it was best to chalk it up to creative differences and part amicably. I also want to thank them for being classy enough to allow us the chance to say farewell on-air. There are some great people there for whom I wish nothing but the best. KC (Ken Calvert) is indeed the casual one; incredibly down to earth, funny gentleman. Karen Savelly is such a pro and truly one of the nicest people I've met in the business. Steve Kostan is probably the most knowledgeable classic rock jock anywhere, and while I never got the chance to run into him that much he was always a cool guy when I did. Uncle Buck who does overnights there (so I'd see him every morning at 4 am when I rolled in) is my fellow Springsteen-addict-brother-in-arms and I hope I always know him. So many people who work off air who's names you never know but who are terrific as well.
Thanks for all the calls, texts and emails from all of you. I want to say I'm sorry about how 2009 turned out, but a show and it's station has to be on the same page, period. I know the main thing folks want to know is "what now?", and what I can tell you is for right now we're both still living in metro Detroit but looking everywhere. It would be great to find a station in Detroit again that would actually want and commit to what we do, but the national economy has left the entire industry in a bad way and we have to be realistic. We'd be fortunate to find that station anywhere. If we land something here in the Motor City you'll hear of it right here a.s.a.p.. If we need to move away I'll certainly let you know that too.
Many of you will be asking about the others, so let me give you the rundown. Jamie Samuelsen was doing our sports and he is still there in mornings on WCSX. He'll be doing sports for Ken Calvert's new morning show. Same for Nicole Salem who remains doing traffic for KC. I'm not sure what's going on with Rudy Desantis at this point. Jim O'Brien who was our producer for just this past year will remain with WCSX. He was one of their guys to begin with; had been there at least 6 years before we got there.
So that's it. That's about all I can say. If anyone wants to write me directly my personal email address remains the same...jeffdeminski@comcast.net. Stay in touch, and I'll do the same. Now pardon me while I go home and get my f'ing shinebox HAHAHA.

Well Jeff I would like to just Thank you and Bill for all the great entertaining years. I fell upon your station when you guys first got here back almost 10 years ago on accident (because I forgot to change my station back to the music station after Listening to Stern LOL) and have not quit listening since. You guys brought us many laughs from 97.1 to today. I can still remember you funny stories your Aunt Martie always hitting on ya, your dad sitting down to pee, when you got your Saleen Mustang, to Bill's gamer trough the games you played every friday (Do you want to play a game) All the way to the Faces not names banner. This last season was nothing like the old show but it was still great hearing you all again.
I wish you all well and hopefully we hear you two very soon. Thanks for the great radio moments and laughs and thanks for all the great memories that passed my afternoon and morning drives by quicker and alot more enjoyable.

Good Luck Jeff and Bill. I must say that when CSX started the music at 9:00 I couldn't listen anymore and I had a feeling that things were not going good for you and the station. Keep you fan base posted and I hope you end up back in the Detroit area, but if not hopefully we can listen over the internet.

Jeff, I have always loved the show and you guys. I think what happened was somthing that you can't help or look back at and wonder. You guys were always what you were. A great talk radio duo. That much will never change. I doubt that radio community will ever forget that either. I also doubt you will be out of work for long. Your reputations speak for themselves.
As for what you did for my wife and I, well, that is a story that will be forever told. I am sure my grandchildren will know how I proposed on your show. I really can't ever thank you enough.
If you believe in Karma or you reap what you sow, then you should be confident going forward. I wish you and your family the very best, aswell as Doyle and his family. Lord knows, you provided it for me.
Thanks brother and keep looking forward,
Willy the Pizza Guy

Well, that really sucks. I'm glad it was a better parting than from 'that other station' but it still sucks not hearing you guys on a daily basis again.
Will you be continuing to use this blog to keep fans updated? Or is there a better spot for finding out were D&D end up?

All the best to all of you! Hopefully you'll stay in metro Detroit. If not, let's hope we can listen via the web.
Detroit really needs a good talk radio station and not one that only has sports talk! If I want music, I'll listen to my Zune.
Hopefully we'll hear you again!

Even with the addition of music, the incredible amount of interviews, and the uncomfortable amount of commercials, the show was still great and I was still upset as ever to hear of it's departure. I'm glad I got to hear the final show, though, and I'm thankful that WCSX was kind enough to let you give a final signoff, unlike many other stations.
Hope the two of you find work asap, even if it's not in metro detroit. Luckily I've got a driod so I can follow you wherever you go. Creepy :)

Class post, Jeff. All the best to you and Bill and I sure hope you can remain in the area, but a guy has to make a living, and this isn't the place to do it for most.
Best regards from your non-stalker!

My wife said to me Wed - "Morning just isnt the same". Hopefully if you end up outside of Detroit, that station will have streaming audio, cause Im in for sure.
January 8, 2010 at 8:11 PM
Hey ltl and love you guys. I had to part ways with Detroit and now live in Texas. Houston is actually surviving. You should look down this way, it would be great to not have to web stream you guys anymore.
Lots of luck!

I was saddened to get in the car for work on Monday and not hear your voices. Granted the show was different on this station (&way to short)but you guys still made it work. Many thanks for helping us all through our work days whether it was afternoons or kicking off our mornings. Best of luck to you both and hopefully you will find something soon while I wish it would be local & in the afternoons I'll settle for internet and anytime of day. Good luck!
January 8, 2010 at 9:35 PM
97.1 seems to be struggling with finding a good morning show. Would you guys consider going back to CBS radio?
January 9, 2010 at 9:43 AM
Jeff-
Thank you for everything. You guys have been real good to me over the years. I hope to hear the "Deminski cackle" over the airwaves real soon. Thank you for countless laughs and memories. If you ever need anything you got my number. At the very least we have to get out for a drink.
January 9, 2010 at 11:32 AM
Sorry to see you go (again) Jeff but hopefully you'll be back on the air soon! And like others have said, hopefully back in afternoons -- but then again, your kids don't really know a dad who works evenings! Haha...
Hey here's a Facebook group for you!

I've been an addicted listener to your show since early 2000. I stumbled upon you guys by pure accident, I was switching the channels on my radio to find something other then a radio station that just played the same songs over and over again, but after listening to the first show I never turned my radio to anything different. I moved away from the Detroit area in 2003 but would always try to catch the show when I was in the area and since 2006 I've been listening online as much as possible.
You, Doyle and the rest of your show (Beaver too) have always been great to listen too and I was quite saddened to here the show was cancelled. Thanks for many years of laughter and entertainment and I look forward to listening to you guys again were ever you may end up.
January 9, 2010 at 10:00 PM
I can't believe you guys are gone again. Thanks so much for all the laughs you gave us, and all the crazy parties and open houses.
You will both be missed, so keep up this blog please!
Love you guys!

Guys,
I wish you both the best and thanks for all the years of joy. When you guys first went off the air it felt like I lost a family member. Then, for a moment things seemed almost right and now we lose you again. I sure hope you land in Detroit. You will be sorely missed. So many things have changed for the worse around here and this is just one more. I hope to hear you soon.
Thanks D&D,
Dave

Take care,
Rob

So spill it. Are you guys looking for a new station? Or throwing in the towel?
If you get a new station, make sure it broadcasts online.
January 12, 2010 at 6:24 PM
You guys don't have another one of those stupid non-competes this time, do you?
January 13, 2010 at 8:35 AM
I love you guys...I found you many years ago on 97.1 and loved my drive home and when I heard you went to 94.7, I was so excited!!! Now I am going through withdrawls!!! Please keep us posted and whatever your dedicated listening audience can do..we will be there...If you can create a facebook group...I will follow and share with others!!!
January 13, 2010 at 9:08 AM

January 13, 2010 at 11:10 AM

you will surely be missed.
January 14, 2010 at 11:40 AM
who cares anymore jeff??
January 14, 2010 at 12:29 PM
I was a faithful listener back on 97.1, and have caught every show this past year on 94.7. I hope I can listen in on whatever your next venture will be.
Jeff and Bill, I appreciate all that you've done for Metro Detroit. The information, the laughter, the caring for the community.
I hope you'll find your way back to the airwaves soon, and wish you luck until that time!
Thanks for all you've done,
Dianna

All the nice things said here...well...It's beginning to sound like a wake. At least you didn't have to die before knowing about all the kudos D-Town has for you. Believe it or not, I have lots of D&D 97.1 shows I have burned to C.D.s. I listen to them everytime I get the chance. I THINK I NEED HELP! ;-)
January 14, 2010 at 7:10 PM
My husband and I have been listeners since the beginning and have followed you wherever you go and we hope to be able to do that again here in Detroit! Love you guys, everyone on the show, miss you so much already and are hoping and praying that you find something here with us again VERY SOON! We have a neighbor who's been living in China for two years and she already misses your Podcasts! We're behind you 100%! Love you guys! Keep us updated!
January 15, 2010 at 9:22 AM
Jeff and Bill: I have been a loyal fan since almost day 1 since you guys arrived in Detroit. I too felt the withdrawls when you guys went off the air for a year. It was awsome for CSX to give you a chance to say goodbye. This past year I was catching your show by listening to the podcasts and sharing them with other members of my office. By chance I was running late the day you guys signed off and I got to hear it live. I was glad to hear it straight from you guys instead of trying to piece it together later on.
I hope you guys are back on the air soon. And where ever you guys end up, please be sure to continue the podcasts!! Good Luck!

Jason from Orlando, FL
I listened to you guys for years, even via web in Orlando when I was up in time since I work 2nd shift. I hated hearing you guys were off the air. Many stattions like 104.1 in Orlando are all talk. You would definately would be better than The Phillips File.

Your guys' show was great. I loved having something funny to listen to on the drive in to work.
That said, amidst all the praise above I have to be painfully honest...
Between the excessive plethora of commercials and Jamie what's his name generic sports jock blathering on about crap I don't care about at 7:30 until God knows when, I think that out of the 40 minute drive I caught, MAYBE, 10 minutes of real, actual show. I don't know what your ratings were like, but after about mid-February I found myself listening to more "Bill and Jay" than you guys. Of course, it didn't take long until Tony O. chimed in and started yammering about sports, forcing me to turn to NPR or just turning it off for the rest of the drive. I kept checking back in every now and then, but more often than not I would tune in during a commercial or some sports crap and just tune away again.
Sorry. You guys are great, but the crap that surrounded you choked you out (at least for me). I look forward to your next attempt, hopefully there isn't a non-compete clause keeping you off air until 2011.
Thanks, and good luck,
Jeff

Well I am a bit late to the parade because I just found out today you guys were not on the radio. I just switched backed to midnights after working days, that is why I had not listened in a couple of months. You guys are awesome and I wish you nothing but the best in the future.
